Let’s face it, there’s no world where farts aren’t funny.
And when you can share a funny fart story that is also wonderfully wholesome, well, that’s just gold medal comedy right there.
Now, it probably has not ever even dawned on most people what sort of things deaf people cannot hear, but suffice it to say: farting is one of those things.
And when kids hear farts, it’s hysterical. When kids who have never heard anything suddenly realize that farts make a sound, it’s drop on the floor hilarious.
First-grade teacher Anna Trupiano made this discovery while teaching at a school that serves the hearing impaired from birth through eighth grade. One of her first-graders audibly farted.
Other students looked at him and started laughing, which confused the student, who was not just hard of hearing but entirely deaf.
Trupiano made the whole thing a “teachable moment” and shared the story on Facebook.

🤣🤣🤣…
Reactions to Trupiano’s FB post were overwhelmingly positive.
Trupiano spoke to GOOD Magazine and said the whole thing shows serious issues the deaf community faces.
“I know it started with farts, but the real issue is that many of my students aren’t able to learn about these things at home or from their peers because they don’t have the same linguistic access. So many of my students don’t have families who can sign well enough to explain so many things it’s incredibly isolating for these kids,” she said.
Trupiano said she hoped people would learn to sign so society could be more inclusive.
“I would love to see a world where my students can learn about anything from anyone they interact with during their day. Whether that means learning about the solar system, the candy options at a store, or even farts, it would be so great for them to have that language access anywhere they go.”
Just think about it: if you knew how to sign, you could be part of hilarious conversations like Trupiano’s with kids every day! And who wouldn’t want that?
